Ricky Harriott is a Tottenham born contemporary womenswear designer, that launched his own line “Wesley Harriott,” in 2016. His collections are rooted in biographical stories influenced by females that have impacted his past in both fiction and reality. Wesley Harriott’s collections embody the strength and resilience of the female character. This alongside his primary influences of video games and anime help shape his powerful and striking designs. Harriott believes that being a London-born designer grants you the ability to experiment and develop designs, which is illustrated in the unique message of his clothing. Harriott aims his collections at the dominant female figure, drawing his influences from power and individuality. The shaping of Harriott’s collections by female figures of his past is evident throughout. His muse is that raw, unforgiving female that dances between heroism and civilian. Harriott’s series places these powerful women in the contemporary fashion environment with an intelligent uniform that captures their gender-defying nature.
Ricky describes his collections as a series of love letters to women, revealing that the power that women display is what should be enhanced adversed to societal ideals of 'sexy', adding that his clothes portray this dialogue. Through focusing on dynamic pieces with the emphasis on silhouettes, utility and multi functionality. Harriott regarded himself as a storyteller and created a brand as an outlet for those narratives.
Since the brand launched his brand two years ago Harriott has created collections worn by icons such as Lady Gaga, SZA, Stefflon Don, Kylie Jenner, Jorja Smith, Golden Barbie, Petite Meller, Korean K-POP Sensation CL and had his work grace the pages of leading industry publications such as WWD, Vogue UK, Vogue Turkey, Hunger, SHOW Studio, Dazed, Indie Magazine and Refinery 29 to name a few. Harriott’s accolades span further, by recently winning the ASOS Fashion Discovery competition, an award with a history of supporting entrepreneurial design talent. Harriott showcases his collections each season with The British Fashion Council as part of the Official Schedule for London Fashion Week.
